The CAA board of directors met on Monday, October 20. We meet approximately every two months or so. The full minutes of this meeting are on the wiki (as with all meetings), but I'll summarize the highlights.
Budget
In light of some recent financial confusion and uncertainty, we decided that we'd like to move forward on a formal budget policy. The idea is that each committee will produce a budget specifying their expected expenses and income, and submit that to the board for review. The board will put all the budgets together, balance this against all expected income, and make adjustments to how much can be spent.
So far we've identified several committees for this responsibility:
- fundraising
- planning, which will be responsible for budgeting most our outreach and programs
- conference
- admin & salary - the board will work on this one directly, since the board sets salaries
Matt Mackall is in charge of collecting all the budgets and putting them together.
November Retreat

Office Space
We talked for a while about the possibility of finding another office space off-campus, in addition to the Coffman space. We think that having such a space available would be good for our many non-student volunteers, as going to campus can be a hassle, especially if you're driving.
However, we don't really have any money in the budget for such a thing, so we're looking at options for free space. If you happen to know of one, let us know!
Alcohol Policy
The board decided that for liability reasons we will not allow alcohol at any event without prior board approval.
I'm sure some folks will find this annoying, and honestly I do too. While the chance of an incident seems very low, the consequences would be immense, so we're erring on the side of caution. Just one lawsuit could completely bankrupt us.
Next Meeting
Our next meeting will be on Saturday, December 6 (my birthday!), 1:30pm at Gil's place. Our meetings are open to any interested attendees.
